Cherokee, NC KOA    October, 2000

IMG_0121.jpg (82558 bytes) We stayed at Cherokee KOA for a week. On the weekend, this very large campground was packed. During the week though, there was not a soul close to us.
Mingo Falls, a moderate hike from the KOA, but quite a climb up steps on the mountain to the falls. IMG_0086.jpg (306850 bytes)
IMG_0111.jpg (54235 bytes) My wife Chiko on the open car of the Great Smoky Mountain Railway. If you take this trip on the open car, wear warm clothing. Many ended up purchasing blankets. We enjoyed it but were frozen stiff!
A view of Lake Fontana in the early morning hours from the train. We took the 41/2 hour Nantahala River Gorge tour. IMG_0107.jpg (39230 bytes)
IMG_0118.jpg (112945 bytes) Fishing in the stocked Trout Pond. We did catch enough for a meal, but did just as well on the river side of the campground
If you've never taken the trip around to Cade's Cove in the great Smokey Mountain National Park, its really worth the effort. We've seen deer, bears and bobcat on various trips around the loop. IMG_0100.jpg (95479 bytes)
