Long Point County Recreation Park, one of our favorite campgrounds, is part of the Brevard County park system located about 2 miles north of the Sebastian Inlet State Park. Almost 80% of the campsites on this small island are on the beautiful Indian River or a canal surrounding the island. Some of the facilities are worn and need to be updated, but are always kept clean by park personnel. The park does allow day use access, but we've never been bothered by anyone. There are not a lot of add-on attractions at the campground, but there is a swimming lake, boat ramp and a bridge to a primitive camping area on called Scout Island. The main attraction is the Indian River with it's good fishing. You can also dig enough clams to make up a great meal. Winter time is very crowded with snowbirds staying semi-permanently. They somehow find ways around the maximum 21 day stay. There are some sites with shade, but the majority don't have enough to count on. Mosquitoes and no-see-ums abound, so take the bug spray and a screen house if you have one. On the weekends, tenters with boats are common, taking advantage of the world famous fishing at the nearby Sebastian inlet. Surfers also frequently use the park as a home base for surfing the waves along the Spacecoast. Rangers drive through every hour or so, but don't bother you if you're following the rules.
