Anastasia State Recreation Area

This Florida state park is rated high from visitors from throughout the country. The campsites are spacious and surrounded by ample follage which offers separation from other campers. The main attraction at the park is the hard wide beach. There was no driving allowed on the beach while we were there, but we did take our bikes down to the beach and were able to ride several miles on the beach without problems. We didn't surf fish but we did fish in the salt water lagoon where we caught several redfish, black drum and trout all though all were slightly undersize and we didn't keep any. There were several small playgrounds for children scattered throughout the park. You may rent canoes and wind surf boards for use in the salt water lagoon. A small store carries minimum camp supplies, ice and a good selection of ice cream. The restrooms can only be described as adequate and most structures in the park suffer from harsh treatment from the salty, sea side environment. There are ample tourist attractions located in nearby Historic St. Augustine and Anastasia is a good base for viewing this lovely city.
