We usually try to go on a Thursday to FPUC
campouts. We like a minimum of three night camping trips and
usually get to pick out the site we want for the weekend.
Here's our camper set up shortly after arrival with no one
around. |
 |
Another view of the camper. Notice the PUT and
alt.rv.pop-up-trailer bumper stickers. |
 |
Highland Hammocks was built by the CCC. There
is a small museum displaying much memorabilia and early
photos of the Corps. |
 |
A quaint camp restaurant serving breakfast and
lunch. |
 |
Although the Kissimmee River and many lakes
are nearby, there is no lake on the park itself. There are
many opportunities for hiking and biking, both paved and off
road. |
 |
This sign
describes the large, ancient oak tree located on Big Oak
Trail, one of the many hiking trails off of the main Loop
Road. |
 |
 My
favorite trail was the Cypress Swamp Trail. The almost
spooky quiet of the primordial swamp offers several stops
for quiet contemplation. |
 |
Our resident photographer, Dane, takes a
close-up of Jimmy which he posted on the FPUC group on AOL. |
 |
A group portrait of some of our kids. They are
always well behaved, but seem to disappear when group
portrait time comes around. |
 |
Despite some wet firewood, we got a roaring
fire going for smores and fireside chat. |
 |
CampmomFl entertained our kids with camp
crafts. |
 |
Notice the adults edging closer after seeing
how much fun the kids were having! |
