Stephen C Foster State Park, Fargo, GA

This was a joint campout of FPUC and SEPUC and quite a haul from WPB for just a weekend, but it was great meeting new friends of SEPUC and seeing old friends with FPUC. We had a really enjoyable time, even though we went from air condition required South Florida to potential frost conditions called for by the local weather man. I don't think it ever got that cold, but the mid-30's weather really made for a nice change of pace around the campfire!

Review This really large park is part of the Georgia State Park system and is the only state park located within a national wildlife refuge and is on an island in the Okefenokee Swamp. Facilities were well maintained and the restrooms clean. Sites were fairly spacious and had good shade except for the height of the day. It was too cool for too many bugs when we were there, but I think they might be a problem in warmer weather. I didn't take my boat on this trip as it was so far for just a weekend, but canoes and boats are offered for rent at the Ranger station. There is a small but interesting museum and a boardwalk trail through the swamp. You are quite a ways from shopping, so make sure to double check your supplies.
