These numbers are based on my owner's manual and actual weights loaded for a trip. The actual weights for the truck include both me and my wife and a full tank of gas, and loaded with our normal camping gear we carry in the truck. The ratings are from the Vehicle Loading sticker and owner's manual and do not include any additional cargo carrying capacity added by the additional spring. I'm pushing my little Ranger hard, but it seems to be up to the task. The rough calculation of 75% of the 4,000 lb. maximum trailer weight is 3,000 lbs. Performing the calculations for maximum towing rate GCWR - GVW = MTW would be 7,500 - 4,420 = 3,080. My fully loaded trailer comes in at 2,910 lbs. All the numbers are close, but there is some additional load capacity there no matter which way you figure them! |
